You cannot fully delete a published app from the Google Play Console once it has been published. Google does not allow permanent deletion of published apps. However, you can remove it from Google Play so users can no longer find or download it.
Here’s what you can do instead 👇
Option 1: Unpublish the App (Recommended)
This removes the app from the Play Store for all users.
Steps:
- Go to Google Play Console
- Select your app
- In the left menu, click Policy > App availability
(or Setup > Advanced settings, depending on console version) - Under App availability, select Unpublish
- Confirm
Result:
- ❌ New users cannot find or download the app
- ✅ Existing users keep the app and can still use it
- ❌ App page is removed from public Play Store
Option 2: Remove from Specific Countries
If you want partial removal:
- Go to Policy > App availability
- Under Countries / regions, deselect all countries
- Save changes
This effectively hides the app worldwide.
Option 3: Remove Future Updates (Soft Retirement)
If you don’t want to maintain it anymore:
- Unpublish the app
- Stop releasing updates
- Optionally update the app with a final version explaining it’s discontinued
Important Things You Cannot Do ❌
- ❌ Delete the app entry entirely from Play Console
- ❌ Reuse the same package name for another app
- ❌ Remove the app from devices of existing users
If You Published by Mistake
If the app was published accidentally and has zero installs, you can:
- Unpublish it immediately
- Contact Google Play Developer Support and request removal (not guaranteed)
